Anybody can be successful, and most people do, but only a few know that a burning desire for accomplishment plus a definite plan are major keys to unlocking the door.
Back in the late 90’s I discovered Hip/Hop music growing up in Westlands, Nairobi, Kenya.

I was nicknamed Luxury Player by my peers because of my knack for luxuries and taste for finer things. My love for music and cars developed early, I wanted to be a rapper, inspired by hip hop listening to Matatu mixtapes by Deejay Kareez and Dj Mdosi at the Florida 2000 night club, Nairobi.

Success is the sum of ones’s acts & thought. Inspired by American Hip/hop and Jamaican Dance hall music I began writing my own raps and doing freestyle shows.
I used to wake up by 4 am and prepare for school and by 6 am I was at the bus stop waiting for Matatu so that I could get the front seat next to the driver. The Matatu played all the latest music and I would take note of all the songs that made me tick.

In order to experience success certain steps must be followed by any person. After moving to New York my environment changed and the vibe was different but my ambition as a rapper was still the same. My major purpose was to get in the mix-tape and the struggle to get a good Dj who will mix my songs properly begun. This was just before the internet explosion. There was a lot of player blockers and most of the gate keepers were biased.
A winner never quits, and a quitter never wins!
In the process I discovered there’s no such thing as something for nothing. In the long run, you get exactly that which you pay for.

I started looking for gigs and shows, it was tough. Sometimes I got lucky for example when I curtain raised for Sauti Sol in New Jersey, U.S.A I was not allowed to do a sound check but I still pulled it through because prior to that I had rehearsed majorly. For me every event was an opportunity.
After the Sauti Sol event I got another chance to headline for Ali Kiba and the doors just kept opening one after the other.

You’re forever lost until you find it and if you have no major purpose in life, you’re licked before you start. Success cannot be defined in one sentence. It is comprised of many things and it means different things to different people.
For me Success is the achievement of something that you have been trying to do. Dj Dona a Kenyan Kenyan hip-hop DJ from Nairobi, based in Kansas City, MS. Known for his Bongo Flava (Swahili Rap) and hip-hop mixtapes was the first Dj to embrace my good life music featuring the club single “Coast 2 Coast”Shortly after I went to Amsterdam and met Dj Dice and we started curating, blending and mixing music hits to play in rides.

Great achievements require team work. Best teams are those whose individual members are self disciplined to assume their share of responsibilities. Success requires no apologies; failure permits no alibis.
I’m forever grateful for all the people who contributed to my achievement directly or indirectly.
My new single “Dressed in latest” is now featured in Rides Mixtape Passport Series,East Africa.-LXRY
